New Zealand Digital Rollout
The government has decided that they will migrate all viewers to digital Television and switch off the analogue Television network in 2013. The Switch over process is in 4 stages:
Hawkes Bay and West coast (30th September 2012)
The rest of the south Island (April 2013)
the lower north Island (September 2013)
the upper North Island (November 2013)
Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) extension
Freeview | HD® via UHF aerial (available to 86% of NZ homes). This is great news as it means that Freeview|HD® receivers, including iDTV’s with Freeview|HD® built in, will also be able to receive transmissions in:
Whangarei
Rotorua
Taupo
Gisborne
Taranaki
Wanganui
Waimarama
Nelson
Tamara
Invercargill
We do not have a date for this work to be completed; as it is dependent on the broadcasters and transmission providers being able to come to a commercial agreement on the increase in transmission costs.
Digital Satellite (DST) Television
Freeview satellite® via satellite dish (available to nearly 100% of NZ homes). For those not in a DTTarea you will need to install a satellite receiver. If you already have a Sky Dish you can use that along with the appropriate decoder.
